Books and Podcasts

This year, I started digging into podcasts and mixing them in with the books I’ve been listening to. It’s a great refresher really helps keep my mindset right where it needs to be: growing!

This summer I re-read the book The Gifts of Imperfection, 10th Anniversary Edition by Brene Brown. Damn, it is a powerful read! Along with re-reading her book, I dug into her six-part podcast with her sisters on The Gifts of Imperfections. I cannot recommend both the book and this specific podcast more!

I've also loved these podcasts:

“We Can Do Hard Things” with Glennon Doyle and her sister. If you have followed along, you know I didn't love Glennon's book Untamed. It was too messy and all over the place for me. However, a friend and mentor recommended this specific podcast to me and I love it! The episode about boundaries was recorded just for me; it hit me in the soul (more on that later). What I like most about this series is that it really makes me think. Often, she offers a very different perspective than my own. I am always learning. I look forward to what is coming next and lately, they have been releasing two episodes per week! I also realized I might just be in a different spot than I was a year ago, so I re-read Untamed and you guessed it, it hit me differently. I got many great messages out of it, a different perspective than my own, and an opportunity to tame my sporadic brain as this book is still a little bit all over the place (!).

I have loved these books:

What Happened To You? by Oprah Winfrey and Bruce Perry. Bruce’s work is so fascinating. I’ve listened to all the podcasts he’s been on – just search his name.

The Confidence Code by Katty Kay and Claire Shipman. This one was a slow start for me, but the end is POWERFUL. After I finished it, I passed it right on to my 14-year-old daughter. EVERY woman and girl should read this.

Speaking of kids, I also highly recommend Wolfpack, Kids Edition by Abby Wambach. Olivia also just finished this one as she prepares for her freshman year of high school. (How the hell did that happen?).

What are you feeding your brain?

Here are a few books on my to-read list:

Hold On to Your Kids

One Person, Multiple Careers

I am planning to re-read Braving the Wilderness by Brene Brown. I LOVED it the first time and I think timing is right to pick it back up!
