Just Move

In January of 2021, I made the decision to move. Let me explain.

Just as for everyone in 2020, life was NUTS working from home (something I have done for over 14 years) with three kids (two of them in remote school). I decided to focus on what I could control so I could come out of 2020 better, not bitter.

In April of 2020, my company offered a bonus and I decided I’d earn it. It was a big goal; I knew I’d have to work my tail off to make it happen. But what the hell else was I going to do? Surely not clean my house!

I spent a LOT of time in my office, in my chair, on the phone, and in front of my computer. If you’re like me, once you make up your mind, there is no stopping you. I shared my goal with my family and asked for their support. I want to teach my girls valuable lessons; if they were going to be home, I wanted them to see me striving, not watching Netflix. We went all in as a family. I hit that goal in December of 2020.

Then January rolled around and I needed a NEW focus. If you have followed along, you know that I always set a word for the year: that word for 2021 was recharge. I wasn't going to sit in my office. Was I going to work? Hell yes, but I was going to recharge my batteries, focus, and MOVE.

Many of you know I have been a BIG fan of the LEAN program taught by nutritionist Amanda Nighbert. I have worked with her and followed her lifestyle of eating for over three years. The missing link, however, was that I followed her eating recommendations, but I did NOT follow her MOVE plan. I never did a single exercise she sent and I decided it was time for that to change! In January, I made the decision to MOVE during conference calls; I would make it a non-negotiable to get at least 10,000 steps a day. It was time to recharge and put myself first. In November, I am still moving; in fact, I get in much more than 10,000 steps per day. I feel great and my business goals are happening, too!

Many of you have asked, so here’s my recipe:

1. Sign up for LEAN. Stick to her 7-week program. This is not a diet; it is a lifestyle and Amanda is incredible. I am SO thankful I started working with her and continue to follow her tips three years later. Her link is here: https://amandanighbert.com/lean-program/ You can use my referral code for a discount: MMCE14.

2. Get a tracker for your steps. I use my iWatch. If you are like me, you will be amazed how few steps you walk until you track them.

3. Schedule your MOVE. I choose to walk. Find something that you like and just stick to it. It really is that simple. Walk, bike, run, or swim: put it in your calendar and make it a non-negotiable. Give yourself 12 months. Consistency, as in everything else, is key!

I'd love to hear from you: is it time to MOVE?
